Psoriasis is a skin disorder, in which our skin is dry and inflamed. In psoriasis skin has pink scaly patches. These can be found on elbows, knees, legs, under belt area, under arms and genital areas. It is not infectious or contagious. These patches can be painful and feel itchy.







Psoriasis can be due to multiple reasons. It can be due to excessive growth of the cells as compared to the shedding of dead cells. There is a defect in the metabolism of the amino acids which are basic building blocks of body cells.

Psoriasis can be due to faulty metabolism, dysfunction of liver, physical or mental stress, medication taken for some disease.


 Remedies for treating Psoriasis





Essential oils – Essential oils are very important for psoriasis. These are good for the healthy skin, nails and hair. Flax seeds, fish, olive oil walnut are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Olive oil can be applied to treat psoriasis. These essential oils reduce inflammation of the patches formed on the skin.

Cabbage Therapy – Cabbage leaves are considered very effective to treat psoriasis. Green and big leaves are taken and washed with hot water. These are then wiped and placed on the affected skin in an overlapping manner. Wool is placed on them and then tied with bandage.





Bitter gourd – Bitter gourd is beneficial for the treatment of psoriasis. It is taken in the juice form. One cup of juice with one teaspoon of lemon juice in it. It can be consumed for few months.









Butter milk – Butter milk is effective for psoriasis. It can be consumed freely. It can also be applied on the skin to treat psoriasis.






Cashew nut oil – Cashew nut oil is beneficial for the effected skin in psoriasis. It is applied on the skin.

Avoid Alcohol – Alcohol is not good for psoriasis.  Alcohol can affect the functions of liver which can affect the digestion. So this can flare up the psoriasis symptoms. Toxins build up in the body will always affect the skin badly.







Reduce Fats – High fatty food is linked with increase in the scaly skin in psoriasis. It will increase the cholesterol which will cause harm. So eat less of fats to treat psoriasis. Avoid animal fat (except fish) and protein and eat vegetable protein.


High fiber is beneficial – Consume high fiber diet to treat psoriasis symptoms. It helps to eliminate toxins out of the body. It also reduces cholesterol and help in reducing weight by providing satiety value for long time. Consume lots of fruit and vegetable as these are very beneficial for our healthy skin.









Smoking is harmful - Smoking should be avoided by the persons suffering from psoriasis. As it flares up the symptoms of this disease.









Turmeric – Turmeric is found to be beneficial for the psoriatic patients. It treats the inflammation of the skin.







Some other measures to treat psoriasis

1.   Take bath with lukewarm water. Moisturize the skin properly after the bath. Sea water is very beneficial to treat psoriasis. Epsom salt can also be added to the water to get relief from this problem.
2.   Scented soaps and perfumes contain chemicals so avoid them. As these can flare up the symptoms of the disease.
3.   Stress can be detrimental and can increase the symptoms of psoriasis. So try to be relaxed by meditation and do exercise.
4.   Consult doctor and take proper medicine. It takes a lot of time to heal. So be patient and follow the right diet and lifestyle to treat psoriasis.
