Leave that stress behind and live happily.

                        LEAVE THAT STRESS BEHIND

"Rule number one is,don't sweat the small stuff.Rule number two is,it is all small stuff".

Stress is something which is very common these days. We are stressed in every situation of life, whether it is in office, traffic or at home with kids. Generally people associate stress with emotional tension. But along with mental stress, physical injury or illness also causes stress to the body.

These days we are in a hurry, in whatever we do. We don’t have time to take care of ourselves. The lifestyle and stressful environment around us is causing more harm than good. Even thinking so much about stress is making me feeling sick.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR LIVES

We’re aping west in whatever we do. We are having more and more junk foods like pizzas, burger and chips. Somewhere we are leaving our traditional food and lifestyles behind. I may sound negative, but what I see around me is, youth of today consuming alcohol, drugs and all kinds of awful stuffs.

All these harmful substances cause stressful environment in our bodies. Corporate culture has also created tension in the lives of     our youngsters. As a result they are plagued with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and migraine etc.

FLIGHT OR FIGHT RESPONSE

Flight or fight response, is to help us to survive in stressful situations. But if it continues for a long period of time, it can be very detrimental to us. It can cause various diseases. When in tension the cortisol hormone is excreted from adrenal gland. It raises our heart rate and blood pressure. Our metabolism is activated, muscles get tense, and more blood transfers to muscles for the flight response. Digestion is hampered. So it is particularly important, not to get stressed at our meal times.

Eat food in a pleasant environment. The stress can result in all sorts of problems affecting our digestive system causing constipation, diarrhea, indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome. It can lessen our immunity.

More nutrients get burned up when we are in stress so our bodies require more nutrients at the time of stress. We should eat healthy balanced diet including all the nutrients like carbohydrates, fat vitamins and minerals. Especially carbohydrates are important at this time, as they release the calming  chemical serotonin.

Vitamins C, A, E and selenium act as powerful antioxidants ,which wipe out the excessive free radicals in our bodies, formed as a result of excessive stress. We should take a multivitamin and mutimineral pill along with the balanced diet, when passing through this phase.J

ACCEPTING LIFE

Life is a struggle. But the moment we accept life as it is, then it seems bit easy. Tougher we are on life the easier it will be. Discipline in life is very important so that it can be easier for us. Anxiety up to a certain level is essential to achieve success in life. We should perform all our duties with peaceful mind and body. When our emotions are controlled and we are happy, then the results are miraculous.

      SOME WAYS TO TACKLE STRESS

1. Our response to the stress is very important. If we get agitated        over minor issues then we can exaggerate our problems, instead     of  solving them. Calm mind brings clarity about the              circumstances    around us.

2. We can listen to our favorite music. It also produces endorphin.

3. We can do yoga, meditation and pranayam. It can create balance     in our bodies. It can also soothe our agitated nerves.

4. We can have 6 to 8 small meals instead of three big meals. It will     provide us smooth flow of energy throughout the day.

5. We can talk to our friends, family member or counselor.

   6.  Massage is also helpful to ease out muscular tension.

7. We can enjoy doing ,whatever we like. For example going for a        walk in nature, gardening, art and craft etc.

8. We can sip chamomile or peppermint tea before bedtime. These       are very relaxing and can wipe out tensions of the day which            results in sound sleep.

9. We can also write about the stress and the feelings involved with      it. It can help us to solve our problems.

c 10.    We should perform various physical activities. These produces        endorphin in our bodies (feel good hormones).
