Treating. Thyroid disorders using holistic approach and live healthy
How to tackle Thyroid Disorders
Dear friends, the
butterfly shaped gland present in the lower neck, below the Adam’s apple is the
thyroid gland. These days I see many women afflicted with the thyroid
disorders. These are found in men also but more common in women. This gland secretes
hormones t4 and t3 known as thyroxine and triiodothyronine. They control the
metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Thus any changes in the
hormones influence the chemical activities at cellular level.
It also controls many other processes in the body
like physical and mental development, body temperature and burning of fat. There are many factors which influence
this important gland. Nutritional deficiencies have a detrimental impact on the
working of the gland. Emotional factors like stress and anxiety for a long period
influence the secretion of hormones. Lack of physical activity also mars the
proper working of the gland.
Thyroid gland is overactive in hyperthyroid. In this the metabolism speeds up which results in excessive hunger, weight loss, rapid heartbeat, muscle weakness with other symptoms. In Hypothyroidism , the gland is under active and metabolism slows down causing weight gain and lethargy. Early symptoms include fatigue, sleepiness and muscle weakness.
Generally with many ladies the problem is the same that we don’t get time to exercise, cook healthy meals for ourselves
etc. Most of the ladies complain that the doctor has told us that excessive
fat in our bodies is due to thyroid disorders. We have to pop up the pills our
entire life. Dear ladies we can improve thyroid’s functions if we are ready to
change our lifestyle.
The main nutrient which is essential for
the synthesis of the hormone is iodine. Due to various reasons when we don’t
eat healthy diet, this critical nutrient is missing and our bodies are
unable to make the hormone. So eat everything rich in iodine like milk, fish,
green leafy vegetables, carrot beet root, potato and egg etc.
In addition to iodine there are other nutrients like protein which is essential for the formation of hormone. Our bodies require all the nutrients carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals to perform all its functions. We all are aware of this fact, since ages. But we forget this when we follow any particular diet.

When
there is any problem in our bodies, it gives us signals through the pain,
fatigue sleepiness etc. So we should help it by providing it nutritious diet.
It is a miraculous machine.
There are so many biochemical reactions taking place in it. We should help it to perform well. Different organ systems in our bodies don’t perform as separate entities. They are inter-related and if one organ or gland is affected then it influences other parts of the body also.

We all know
about the deteriorating environmental factors. We are not getting pure air,
water and food. Some where we are also adding to the environmental pollution.
So we should do our bit to reduce this pressure on our mother earth and also on
ourselves.
Today the lifestyle is like that, which
causes stress. Stress releases cortisol hormone.
We should go back to the path which our ancient sages have followed. Pranayams and meditation
will help us to balance our emotions and make us more peaceful with ourselves and with others.
Sedentary lifestyle in no way is
going to help us. Exercise is very essential for the good health of our body.
Physical activity improves blood circulation which will stimulate the gland to
perform well. Various asanas in yoga are also found to be beneficial.
Cultural factors also do have an impact on how we eat, live and perform other activities. Sometimes drastic changes are required in the society to change the existing scenario. A change which brings positive result with it is always welcome.
